Established in May 1996 Los Pibes is a co-operative of over 200 families, who work as a collective to purchase and distribute food amongst themselves. Based in an ex-Naval factory, the Los Pibes building houses a bakery, screen printing workshop and sewing workshops, which offer employment for the participating families

The co-operative is based in the barrio of La Boca, a traditionally a working class area to the south of Buenos Aires' Capital Federal. La Boca's colourful housing, tango shows and football team, Boca Juniors make the area a favourite tourist attraction.

Opportunities for learning new skills are an integral part of the ethos of Los Pibes. Arts and crafts, language skills, and computer training are all offered and provide the opportunity for people to come together and share experiences.
